for 3 instruments. These two fantasies are found in Anthony Holborne´s Cittharn Schoole of 1597, where they appear both in tablature for the four-course cittern, and in staff notation, though the differences between the two versions are actually quite small. In this edition I have transposed the pieces down a fifth, as I see no reason to be bound by the high pitch of the cittern, whose lowest note is g (lowest string of the violin) when playing this attractive music in ensemble. I have also halved the note values. The only other change is the transposition of an occasional bass note down an octave to improve the sonority.
